Tell us who you are.

I’m an artist from Los Angeles.

How did you get into what you do?

A past girlfriend encouraged me to pursue photography, and after taking a few art and art history courses at a community college, I couldn’t imagine doing anything else.

Shane.

If you were an emotion you would be….

That feeling when you are about to board a plane to a foreign country, and you reflect that you probably should have tried to learn the language a while ago, or at the very least booked a hotel to stay at, but you know it’ll be alright.

Stick Shift or Automatic?

Automatic, but I always shoot in manual mode—and I wouldn’t fault a car enthusiast for using a point and shoot camera.  I’d love to learn stick though, I’d enjoy being more conscious of the processes that happen while driving..

What is your least favorite movie?

That most recent Ninja Turtles movie.  Incoherent plot, and the Turtles just looked gross.  I recently watched that first Ninja Turtles movie again, its actually a solid movie— its got a lot of depth and humanity to it, not to mention a lot of great jokes that sailed right over my head when I was a kid.

What app do you use the most?

Lately its been Tumblr. Tumblr has such a volume of deep thoughtful artwork and freeform sensibility which is quite refreshing and makes Instagram look kind of formulaic by comparison.

Who inspires you?

Whoever is in front of me

Favorite curse word?

Flying-fuck.

Do you believe in ghosts?

My dad’s childhood home was haunted by a dog— whenever you came home, papers would scatter, chairs might move, and the whole place had the feeling like it was happy to see you.  Make of that what you will.

Drink of choice?

Fernet Branca, on the rocks, with a twist of orange peel

What has made you laugh your ass off recently?

The funniest thing I've seen lately is a video of a bonobo money making a fire-- I won't spoil what happens but it's worth it.

What is your usual bedtime?

2 AM

What turns you on? 

You know that tense pause when your wavelength syncs up with another’s?  That’s the stuff.

What turn you off?

Cigarettes and general negativity.  

What would you like to be if you weren't a ________?

A potter, making ceramics on a wheel

Something people don't know about you.

Every time I get in a car, I make peace with the fact that it may be my last day.
